Berkel Wins Challenge Copenhagen August 2010

The plan was to stop racing so much and go back to basics of building strong aerobic capcity to match his high revving engine, after Port there was the feeling on coaches part that too much racing had eaten into his vulcan storage tanks. Tim is still young but like all champions he does what he needs to do to achieve his goals and he knuckled down and by the time he left for the US season the signs started to look better. His start to US season was strong off the back of no real intensity other than strength endurance, he finished podium in several 70.3 races before having a dink dong battle with Terenzo Bozzone for the win at Providence 70.3 still on no race specific work. The feedback that was coming home from Tim Reed and Berkels running was very encouring and the writting was on the wall that the boys were in top form, unfortunaly for Reedy while in the same group as Berkel at the 60km mark he hit a piece of steel that shredded his tyre and finished his race. Adam Holborow was also in the group but Adam fell foul of officals and got carded which is sometimes hard to avoid. With 60km's to go on the bike Berkel took off and put the claim on the race never to been seen again. Berkel later said some people had just considered him a good runner and that was it so he thought it was time to put that to bed and I think he's done that. With 2 Ironman wins under his belt at only 26 and a new focus of what makes him tick the future is looking very bright. Well done also to our guys in Copenhagen they conducted themselves very professionally and they left a great impression of the little Ozzie squad.
