Gold Coast Half Ironman was run in hot, dry and windy conditions yesterday. Tim Berkel in training for his Busselton Ironman defence had a bit of a flat day on the bike but came back with the fastest run of the day in 76mins to finish in 2nd place to his of late training partner Lennox local Clayton Fettell who rode an incredible 2:07. Berkel will be back training In Lennox as of this week to train with Clayto and Simon Thompson and he is looking good for a Busso repeat.

The revelation of the day came from Christie Sym who ran through everybody with the fastest run split of the day in only her 2nd triathlon to finish 2nd overall. Christie comes from an adventure racing background is serving a crash course in triathlon with us and I think she is still a long way off what she is capable of, remember her name because I think in the future at only 25 years of age she is going to turn long course triathlon on it's ear.

Bec Eveleigh also had a very strong day in her 2nd race in the open cat by taking 5th overall and a new pb of 4:35-only a few minutes back, Bec had the 2nd fastest run of the day to Christie and looked very strong all day, a little more work on the swim will see Bec right up there. We now have a very strong stable of girls racing. Ali Fitch, Nicole Ward, Bec Eveleigh and Christie Sym are all doing Busselton Ironman and will be gunning for the overall.

Bern Ward set a new a PB 4:29 and finshed 3rd in the 40-44 cat, this is Bern's 2nd poduim after Yeppoon and he has reallt stepped up this year.

There were also PB's for Michael Mahady who looked really solid and also Jason Mann who PBed by 17minutes despite getting dehydrated. With 8 of the faster crew missing in Hawaii for the Ironman it's really pleasing to go so well, Well done.
